The applied mathematician is at once a mathematical specialist and a systems analyst whose task is to confront complex real-world problems with mathematical analysis. In business and industry, the applied mathematician has opportunities to utilize both background and training in solving problems of a practical nature. To do so, one must know the mathematical theories involved and have an appreciation for the specific science or technology that provides the source of the problem. CR/NC grades are not acceptable in courses to be counted for a mathematics major or minor program.
This degree programe will enable you to develop basic programming skills and use of various software such as Mathematica, Matlab, SAS, and R; apply these skills to solve problems in optimization, applied linear algebra, differential equations, and statistical inference.
The International Year One is the perfect pathway if you want a undergraduate degree from a UK, EU or US University but do not meet the requirements for direct entry.
The IY1 course provides an intensive combination of first year University subject modules with English language skills.
Following successful completion of the IY1 you will continue onto your second year degree study directly with the University of your choice.
